Fraunhofer IAP (Institute for Applied Polymer Research) is a part of the Fraunhofer Society, specializing in the development of innovative polymer materials and technologies, from the laboratory to industrial scale, with a strong focus on sustainable solutions for a broad range of industries. Our department, Membranes and Functional Films, develops customized polymer membranes for demanding applications such as gas and liquid filtration, hydrogen production, and semiconductor processing, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and precision engineering. Their research focuses on creating PFAS-free, highly stable membranes—tailoring properties such as pore size, permeability, and chemical resistance to the needs of sectors like electrolysis, fuel cells, and water treatment.
