About

The mission of the GBC is clear: to advance the circular bioeconomy in Greece by uniting producers who utilize renewable biological resources and biotechnology-driven innovations.

The GBC is focused on 4 key strategic sectors that hold the greatest potential for innovation, economic growth, and sustainability:·

  • Bioresource: We focus on processing and upgrading biological organisms and resources, valorizing side- and waste streams and strengthening industrial symbiosis,

  • Biobased Industries & Biomanufacturing: We work to integrate new technologies to scale bio-based alternatives across various sectors and build circular bio-based value chains.

  • Bioecology: We promote ecological processes that optimize the use of energy and renewable biological resources and promote biodiversity and ecosystem health.

  • Biosociety: We aspire to nurture a society that lives on nature-based solutions and understands that bioeconomy adds value to their health and wellbeing.

Our work is developed across: Strategy, Growth, Dialogue and Society. We provide our Members with the strategic guidance and support they need to grow, innovate and establish collaborations, we advocate for supportive EU policies and harmonized regulation, we help drive investment in bio-based solutions and strive to nurture a society where the bioeconomy is accepted.

The GBC is a founding Member of the European Bioeconomy Clusters’ Alliance - a strategic initiative uniting 14 prominent European national associations and regional clusters from 11 EU Member States, seeking to amplify the voice of the bioeconomy sector in the EU by advocating for policies that support the transition to a circular bioeconomy.
