Vaisala Dual Scanning Lidar solution
About
Dual Scanning lidar (DSL) is an innovative wind measurement solution combining two long-range scanning lidars whose laser beams intersect at various angles and heights to reconstruct the horizontal wind speed at the locations where the beams intersect. A series of these measurements (“virtual cups”) can be arranged in a horizontal profile to create a “virtual met mast”. This horizontal wind data is then used in AEP reports to calculate the uncertainties (P50/P90) and perform long-term adjustment of wind data — an essential step for wind project yield analysis and project financing. What makes the DSL solution unique is that it provides cost-effective measurements for offshore WRA application compared to traditional wind measurement technologies such as met masts. The Vaisala WindCube Scan Dual Lidar solution can create 5 virtual met masts, yielding impressive measurement campaign cost reductions compared to an offshore met mast installation or floating lidar system.
