Immersive Visualization Platform with AR/VR Technology for Transforming Strategic Operations in Defense and Security with a Dual-Use Approach
About
Augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies have sparked significant international interest in the defense and security sectors. Countries such as the U.S., China, and Israel are investing billions in AR/VR-based platforms, with prominent programs including IVAS (U.S. Army), MARS (China), IronVision (Elbit Systems, Israel), and synthetic training environments promoted by NATO. Thanks to these investments and continuous technological advancements, AR/VR has transitioned from experimental technology to a tool with operational—or nearly operational—applications in modern militaries.
However, currently available AR/VR-based head-up displays (HUDs) are still undergoing technological maturation. Despite progress, they face significant challenges, particularly in developing advanced visualization systems that deliver fully immersive experiences without compromising ergonomics, energy autonomy, or integration with tactical equipment.
At Inmersia, we have spent years precisely addressing these challenges. By integrating advanced optical, photonic, electronic, and material technologies, we have developed a proprietary visualization system based on cutting-edge technology, offering unprecedented capabilities, including:
• Switching between AR and VR modes within a single device. • Ultra-wide field of view (>120º), maximizing immersion. • High-resolution RGB imaging with low latency, crucial for accurate environmental representation and precise situational awareness. • Infinite depth of field, reducing eye fatigue and enhancing spatial perception. • High energy efficiency, optimized for prolonged operations without sacrificing autonomy. • Compact, lightweight, ergonomic design adaptable to various operational profiles, minimizing fatigue during intensive use. • Use of robust materials capable of withstanding extreme conditions typical of tactical environments.
These features enable the development of HUDs significantly superior to current offerings, unlocking key capabilities for defense applications, including interactive tactical communication, precise geolocation, 3D reconstruction of spaces/objects/people, threat detection and marking, immersive simulation, and dynamic training, among many others.
Due to the high degree of innovation and maturity of our technology, Inmersia has already garnered interest from major international sector players, such as Gentex Corporation (U.S.), as well as leading consumer technology firms like Sony, Samsung, and Huawei. However, as a Spanish company, we aspire to strengthen the national defense ecosystem by collaborating with other Spanish firms interested in driving the development and deployment of disruptive technologies.
To achieve this, we propose building the first comprehensive national platform covering the entire value chain—from disruptive tech startups to established anchor companies. This platform would position Spain as a leader in developing and implementing disruptive dual-use technologies directly applicable to operational and modernization programs of our Armed Forces. It could also benefit significantly from national and European programs such as Misiones Ciencia e Innovación, which this year allocates a substantial part of its budget to promoting strategic autonomy in defense and security, and European innovation funds such as EDF or Horizon Europe.
We believe this is a unique initiative and would welcome the opportunity to discuss it further with you personally at FEINDEF in Madrid, exploring potential synergies and mutual benefits in greater detail.
