Created by Decree-Law No. 3/77 of January 13, under the name EMOSE - Empresa Moçambicana de Seguros, E.E., endowed with legal personality, financial autonomy, and the nature of a public company, reporting directly to the Ministry of Finance, it resulted from the merger of three former insurance companies, namely Companhia de Seguros Nauticus, S.A.R.L., Companhia de Seguros Lusitana, S.A.R.L., and Companhia de Seguros Tranquilidade de Moçambique, S.A.R.L., whose insurance portfolios and respective reserves, as well as all their assets and liabilities, were integrated into it.

Its headquarters are located in Maputo, at Av. 25 de Setembro No. 1383, in the EMOSE Building, and it is the only national insurance company with a presence in all provincial capitals and some district capitals, namely Maputo, Matola, Xai-Xai, Chókwè, Inhambane, Maxixe, Chimoio, Beira, Tete, Songo, Quelimane, Gúruè, Nampula, Nacala, Angoche, Lichinga, Cuamba, and Pemba, and with a presence at most of the national land borders, namely Ponta D'ouro, Goba, Namaacha, Ressano Garcia, Machipanda, Mussurize, Cuchamano, Kassakatiza, Calómuè, Zóbuè, Milange, and Mandimba. This geographical positioning is an asset in assisting and serving its customers, especially in the event of accidents.
