WS19: Towards EU-Wide Marine Munitions Removal Strategy

Format:In-personLocation:Carob Mill- Queen Eleanor RoomTrack:Parallel workshops
  • Maritime security and surveillance

Europe faces an urgent challenge from millions of corroding munitions on its seafloors, as highlighted in the European Ocean Pact. This workshop, organised by the Munitions in the Sea Community of EU-(co)funded and national projects, brings together European actors to jointly advance solutions to this legacy issue. Building on experience and tools developed in the Baltic Sea, it will explore how these approaches can be co-developed and adapted with partners from other sea regions, strengthening Europe’s collective capacity to address underwater munitions. With representatives from academia, industry, national authorities and regional IGOs, the event will discuss policy and funding pathways towards a coordinated, Europe-wide UXO removal and remediation strategy.
