WS14: ACs knowledge on SSCF, MSP & co-management
- Maritime Cooperation (regional, sea-basins, Civil Society, stakeholder relations etc.)
The aim of the workshop, is to highlight the importance of stakeholder engagement through Advisory Councils (ACs) for an effective fisheries management, including its interactions and considering socio-economic and conservation aspects. Best practices of co-management will be also presented as processes involving a wide range of stakeholders in conservation areas. The main objective is to build on the ACs experience of the last 20 years of activities, the strategic and integrated view on SSCF in the framework of the MSP. The active involvement of several stakeholders of the marine space is the first step to propose advice in delivering the ambitions of the EU Ocean Pact.
In practice, the workshop will be divided in 3 parts. First, the moderator will open the workshop and introduce the panel (composed of members of 4 ACs from both professional sector and Other Intertest Groups covering 6 European sea basins) who will provide examples of allocation overlap with SSCF through maps. The speakers are part of the organisations representing direct or indirect economic interests, linked to the use of the marine environment or maritime space other than commercial fishing, aquaculture or the processing, marketing, distribution and retail of seafood. The best practices of co-management were selected taking into account the diversity of stakeholders involved, their long-term sustainability, and on the basis of a balanced geographical distribution across the areas concerned.
The moderator, then will open the debate to the participants asking for suggestions and best practices to solve the overlapping.
Finally, the core of the workshop will consist of transversal questions (using the SLIDO platform) to involve the audience in further discussing the examples of allocation and solutions addressing the overlap in the implementation of the MSP and the activities of the SSCF.
The moderator will draw conclusions, to address common issues that will be focused on future actions.
