WS5: Making the Sea-Basin approach work through MSP
- Enablers (marine research, innovation, technology, observation, blue skills, MSP, digitalisation, investment, ocean literacy etc.)
The ambitions set for the environmental protection, offshore renewable energy and sustainable food production are high and complex. In addition, due to geopolitical situations, stronger emphasis has been set on self-reliance and (economic) competitiveness, hence the Ocean Pact was developed. To tackle all these complexities, the sea-basin approach has been brought up as a way forward to support countries in strengthening the Ecosystem-Based Approach in strategic planning at sea, moving towards integrative, coherent and adaptive MSP at sea-basin scale.
Through an interactive panel discussion, together with participants and panel experts we will dive into the topics of ocean governance, ecosystem based approach, multi-use and cooperation with non-EU countries as a way to share best practices and lessons learned between the sea basins and the role EU projects can play in support of a sea basin approach.
