About

CRIS UL is the only research centre in Ireland dedicated to advancing subsea and aerial robotics for marine monitoring and offshore wind inspections. Established 25 years ago, it comprises a team of 25 academics, postdoctoral researchers, and PhD candidates specialising in electrical, electronic, computer, mechanical, and ocean engineering.

At CRIS, we focus on developing innovative, industry-driven marine technology solutions. Our expertise spans marine platforms, navigation systems, sensor development, remote presence, digital twins, and advanced robotic technologies, including remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Our infrastructure includes a diverse fleet of underwater robots, ranging from light inspection units to work-class ROVs and drones, as well as large fixed-wing platforms. CRIS researchers have participated in numerous national, European, and industry-led collaborative projects, contributing to advancements in marine and aerial robotics.
