The European algae stakeholders forum (EU4Algae), operational since 2022, gathers over 1050 registered members. Although forming a heterogeneous group, members are supporting the generation of knowledge through an environment where interested parties and experts openly speak and provide inputs that helped shape the EU Algae Initiative, also contributing to the implementation of its actions. The EU4Algae as a stakeholder’s bottom-up forum is playing an important role in promoting discussions and advancements in the sector towards regenerative, resilient, fair, and climate-friendly algae industry across Europe. Through collaborative efforts facilitated by the forum, stakeholders from various sectors have come together to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and collectively identify the main challenges inherent in the algae industry.

About me

Laura Maragna is a Senior Innovation Consultant at EurA Innovation Ecosystems, based in Portugal, where she currently manages the EU4Algae project—an EU-wide initiative to support and connect stakeholders in the growing algae sector. Her career has been shaped by a strong commitment to environment, international cooperation, and innovation-driven policy.

Before joining EurA, Laura gained valuable experience working across European institutions and international organisations. She has contributed to scientific diplomacy and policy coordination at the EU Delegation in Brazil, supported evidence-based policymaking at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, and worked for the United Nations.

Laura’s work is centred on building bridges between science, innovation, and policy—particularly within the marine and blue bioeconomy sectors. She is especially engaged in advancing algae as a strategic resource for Europe’s green transition.

In addition to her project management roles, Laura is also active in public engagement and knowledge-sharing. She regularly moderates and speaks at events and has recently led discussions at European forums on blue bioeconomy and algae-related discussions.
