My organisation

At KDM - The German Marine Research Consortium, we unite leading marine research institutions across Germany to advance our understanding of ocean science and ecosystems. Our collective expertise enables us to tackle pressing marine challenges, promote sustainable practices, and foster innovative research collaborations. We are dedicated to enhancing knowledge transfer and international partnerships, ensuring that our scientific findings contribute to policy-making and marine conservation efforts. About me

Jan-Stefan Fritz is Head of International Affairs at the German Alliance for Marine Science created by the marine science community together with the federal and five coastal regional governments of Germany. Until April 2026 he was Managing Director of the German Marine Research Consortium, which merged into the Alliance.

He is also Adjunct Lecturer at the Ryan Institute, University of Galway and Guest Researcher the Leibniz Centre for Marine Tropical Research in Bremen.

 In recent years, he has worked closely with EU Institution, the UN, G7 countries and governments around the Atlantic to strengthen the role of science in international ocean cooperation. 

Stefan holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics.
