Description:

The workshop explores Green Shipping in Europe with a special focus on the Mediterranean, focusing on marine renewable energy, alternative fuels, energy transition, decarbonisation and port adaptation. It showcases practical solutions and good practices from Europe and discusses the challenges and opportunities for the shipping and ports industry. It aims to deliver actionable conclusions for sustainable shipping practices focusing on topics such as:

·       Defining the current and future energy demand from vessels

·       How to shift away from fossil fuels

·       What are strategies being adopted – changing fuels, refitting, etc.

·       Focus on different uses (type of boats)

The workshop explores Green Shipping in Europe, with a special focus on the Mediterranean. In this respect, three main questions arise for the energy transition:

·       How much can ship efficiency be improved to limit the energy demand?

·       Which should be the main alternatives to fossil fuels?

·       How could the port adaptation facilitate the energy transition?

The answers should consider different vessel cases, regions and decarbonisation scenarios, as well as a great deal of uncertainty. This workshop aims to capture all three aspects, energy efficiency, alternative fuels and port adaptation, and to deliver actionable conclusions based on sustainable shipping good practices and industry forecasts.
