About me
Melanie Walter serves as the Minister for Europe and Regional Development of the State of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) since May 2025. She holds a background in economics and political science and worked in the field of vocational training, before becoming an international consultant and project manager at the Hannover Chamber of Industry and Commerce in 2001. In 2008, she joined the Mayor's Office of the City of Hannover, where she initially served as Head of Policy, Integration, International Affairs, Europe, and Science, and in 2013 headed the Department of Migration and Participation of the City of Hannover. Since 2016, she has been working for the State of Lower Saxony. Starting as Chief of Staff to the Minister President and was appointed Head of the Vocational Training Department at the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs in 2018, a position she held until 2025.
