SUASIS – Organization Overview and Capabilities
SUASIS is a leading SME in the field of underwater seismo-acoustics and intelligent sensing technologies, with a proven track record in delivering advanced monitoring solutions for geophysical, marine, and structural applications. With nearly two decades of experience in R&D, system integration, and field deployment, SUASIS combines cutting-edge engineering with a deep understanding of complex underwater environments.
The organization boasts a comprehensive R&D and testing infrastructure, which includes:
-
Dedicated seismo-acoustic test tanks for evaluating sensor performance in controlled aquatic environments
-
Low-frequency standing wave calibration systems for precise tuning and validation of hydrophones and vector sensors
-
A clean room for micro/nano-sensor assembly and hardware miniaturization
-
A Short-Period 3D Seismic Station located at the laboratory premises, enabling high-fidelity acquisition of ambient noise and local microseismicity data
-
Field test sites with infrastructure to support real-world system evaluation, including underwater deployment platforms and data acquisition hubs
SUASIS’s core strength lies in its integrated systems approach, wherein hardware development, embedded software engineering, AI-driven analytics, and full-system integration are performed under one roof. This holistic workflow enables:
-
Rapid prototyping and iteration based on iterative field testing feedback
-
Seamless coordination between mechanical, electrical, and signal-processing components
-
Agile adaptation to diverse user requirements and deployment environments
SUASIS has participated in national and international collaborative R&D projects involving ambient noise analysis, distributed acoustic sensing, underwater IoT systems, and intelligent autonomous platforms. The organization has substantial at-sea experience across the Mediterranean, Black Sea, and deep ocean test ranges, conducting full-cycle operations from deployment and data acquisition to performance validation and recovery.
To further enhance its contributions to future-facing projects such as GEO-INTEL, SUASIS is launching a new research division focused on Machine Learning (ML) and Physics-Informed Machine Learning (PIML). This team will be composed of two early-career researchers specializing in AI-driven modeling of underwater seismic and acoustic phenomena. Their efforts will be directed at developing scalable, real-time inference algorithms for complex environmental monitoring scenarios where high noise levels and low data availability present unique challenges.
By bridging domain-specific physics with adaptive machine learning, SUASIS aims to pioneer next-generation intelligent systems for real-time event detection, early warning, and predictive analytics. Its unique combination of technical infrastructure, interdisciplinary expertise, and operational flexibility positions SUASIS as a key innovator in the underwater sensing domain.
