Digital-Twin-In-The-Loop approaches

Engineer at Full Matrix Ltd

About

A digital twin is a model that runs alongside the real asset and helps interpret signals. Building on our work for the fusion power industry, we can design monitoring approaches where measured features feed a simple model to estimate condition and uncertainty, and where the model predicts what a sensor should see so anomalies stand out. We are careful to document assumptions and to keep interfaces simple so partners can slot our pieces into their own frameworks.

In a consortium, this connects sensing with decision support. It also helps plan tests: by simulating “what if we had this sensor here,” teams can decide which prototypes are worth building and how to evaluate them. During pilots, comparing measured and predicted features helps isolate whether an alert is due to a real issue, a sensor fault, or a modelling gap.

Example applications
• Estimating the likelihood that a hatch is fully closed given several weak cues.
• Predicting vibration features of a bracket and checking against measurements over time.
• Using a model to choose inspection intervals that keep risk within agreed bounds.

Deliverables
• Architecture notes, simple model code, feature definitions, and decision logic with clear thresholds and rationale.
