CHATTIGR AS is a technology-driven startup based in Norway, dedicated to solving one of the most pressing challenges in water and energy infrastructure: sediment buildup in reservoirs and hydropower plants. Sediment removal currently costs the EU alone €5–8 billion annually, and removing accumulated sediment in reservoirs worldwide incurs costs of approximately $21 billion annually, highlighting the urgent need for more sustainable and cost-effective alternatives. Climate change is accelerating the problem of sedimentation, with more frequent extreme weather events, heavier rainfall, and flooding driving increased sediment into reservoirs worldwide. This not only threatens water security and reliable electricity but also puts added pressure on communities and ecosystems. With the founders having over 20 years of research and innovation experience, our company is developing a novel, energy-efficient solution that separates sediment upstream using proprietary multiphase technology. Unlike traditional dredging or flushing methods, our solution minimizes water loss and environmental harm, while harnessing the river’s natural flow and integrating advanced digital tools such as IoT, AI, and digital twins for predictive maintenance and adaptive operation. Our solution is designed to help water managers and hydropower operators adapt to the challenges of climate change, ensuring resilience.
