About
MITIS is a Belgian start-up committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the development of efficient decentralized energy converters that leverage high-speed turbomachinery technologies. Our team of 18 professionals, primarily engineers and PhDs, focuses on research, development, and product industrialization.
After successfully completing several R&D projects, MITIS has secured a total of 12 patents either granted or pending covering our flameless combustion technology, recuperator system, and turbogenerator architecture. Our first minimum viable product (MVP) is the micro-10, a 10 kWe oil-free flameless combustion microturbine designed for combined heat and power (CHP) applications.
The micro-10 utilizes MITIS's patented flameless combustion technology, allowing it to burn a variety of fuels fossil, neutral, or carbon-free with exceptionally low NOx emissions. Its compact rotor, also patented, is supported by in-house developed air bearings, enabling the microturbine to reach high rotational speeds of 100,000 RPM without the need for oil lubrication. This innovative design results in extended maintenance intervals and a lower total cost of ownership (TCO).
Ideal for environments requiring significant heat and/or domestic hot water such as nursing homes, swimming pools, hotels, spas, and multi-residential buildings the micro-10 is also suitable for agricultural applications, wastewater treatment facilities, and landfill sites, where it can directly utilize raw biogas. The total addressable market (TAM) is valued at several billion euros. The micro-10 is currently undergoing certification and is set to launch in 2025.
In addition to the microturbine, MITIS is developing stationary power generation systems based on fuel cell technology, including a turbocharged PEM hydrogen fuel cell and a hybrid micro gas turbine solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system. We are also engaged in third-party engineering projects aimed at creating specialized micro-cryogenic turbomachinery for liquefied natural gas (LNG) boil-off gas cooling in marine applications.
