Press-pack Power Diodes

Press-pack (disc) diodes are designed for high and very high power applications, featuring double-sided cooling for use in stack assemblies and a short-circuit-safe failure mode. Typical applications include large rectifier plants, electrolyzers, metallurgical equipment, rolling-mill drives, cycloconverters, static transfer switches (STS), SVC/TCR/TSC and other FACTS systems, crowbar circuits, high-voltage power supplies, and high-power induction heating.

1. Rectifier diodes are used in DC and AC circuits with frequency of up to 500 Hz, in general purpose electrical and electronic devices, in low voltage rectifiers for welding and electroplating equipment, in the electrotechnical equipment of ships, in converters of electrically propelled vehicles, and in power supplies of machine tools and automatic production lines.

   Key parameters:

   • Voltage class: 200–6000 V

   • Average on-state current: 500–4000 A;

2. The fast recovery diodes are used in static power converters and electronic devices, as well as in other DC and AC circuits of various power units, where the specific intervals of reverse recovery and low recovery charges are primarily required. These diodes can also be used as freewheeling diodes connected back-to-back/parallel to thyristors or as shunting diodes for inductance load.

   Key parameters:

   • Voltage class: 800–4600 V

   • Average on-state current: 630–2000 A;

   • Reverse recovery time: 2-16 us

3. Avalanche diodes are rectifier diodes with controlled avalanching allowing power pulse to dissipate in the breakdown region of the reverse volt-ampere curve within a limited period of time. These diodes are used in DC and AC circuits with frequency of up to 500 Hz, and in general purpose electrical and electronic devices. Avalanche diodes can eliminate or considerably simplify overvoltage protection circuits in converters, especially in case of a large number of series connected diodes.

   • Average on-state current: 1000–3400 A;
