India route to market for EU coloured BIPV: established Indian solar EPC offers project access, installation capability and certification support

Who we are. Solon India Pvt Ltd is a solar EPC company based in Hyderabad, India. We design, supply, install and commission photovoltaic systems for commercial and industrial clients, and we carry the project delivery, electrical and grid-interconnection capability that goes with that.

What we are developing. A coloured, architect-specifiable building-integrated photovoltaic façade product for premium buildings — positioned as architectural cladding that also generates electricity, rather than as a solar panel. The current competition in this segment in India is imported European architectural glass. The programme is at an advanced planning and validation stage, with commercial production targeted from 2027. Technical detail is available under NDA.

Why India needs a local partner, and why an EPC. Imported photovoltaic modules attract basic customs duty of around 40%, and access to government, subsidised and net-metered projects additionally requires ALMM listing and BIS registration. Direct export into India is therefore difficult for a European manufacturer at any price. What is missing in this market is not manufacturing capacity — it is a partner who can get a façade product specified by architects, then delivered, installed, connected and commissioned on real buildings. Meanwhile GIZ, EY, CSTEP and Fraunhofer ISE model Indian BIPV capacity at 5.5 to 17 GW by 2040, and more than half the buildings that will stand in India in 2030 have not yet been built. There is currently no Indian supplier of coloured BIPV façade glass.

Partner profile we are seeking. A European manufacturer of coloured or customisable BIPV and architectural glass, without an existing India presence, looking for a route into a large and largely unserved market. We would act as market-entry, specification, supply and installation partner. We are equally interested in speaking with façade system and structural glazing specialists, and with accredited European test laboratories.

Terms. We are seeking a commercial and technical partnership rather than a customer relationship, and are open to distribution, representation, licensing, technology transfer or joint venture. Reciprocal access to the Indian market is what we offer in return. Product and process detail on both sides under mutual NDA.
