My organisation
Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) was founded in 1966, making it one of the youngest universities in Austria. As a modern and forward-looking university, JKU offers close cooperation between its four faculties—the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and the Faculty of Medicine—in order to meet the demands of business and society. Five research areas are addressed in a cross-faculty and interdisciplinary manner: “Digital Transformation,” “Sustainable Development: Responsible Technologies & Management,” “Neuroscience,” “Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases,” and “Inflammation and Tumor Medicine.” With the founding of the Linz Institute of Technology, LIT, and the Linz Institute for Transformative Change, LIFT\_C, the opportunity was created to finance high-risk, high-gain projects and to advance interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. At the Kurt Rothschild School of Economics and Statistics, newly founded in 2021, the main areas of research are epidemiology & public health, the future of work, and data science. The School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH), which will open in 2023, will bring together JKU's social sciences and humanities expertise. The LIT Open Innovation Center promotes targeted, low-threshold knowledge transfer to industry and business. With the establishment of competence centers, Christian Doppler Laboratories, and spin-off companies, JKU has developed into an internationally recognized partner for technology-oriented collaborations. The research is characterized by its interdisciplinary approach, innovative technical solutions, and contemporary research and development results. The awarding of several ERC grants, two Wittgenstein prizes, and several START prizes to young scientists in recent years underscores the high level of research at JKU.
