SatBałtyk – Satellite Monitoring of the Marine Environment in the Baltic Sea

CIO at Polish EOSC Node

Sopot, Poland

About

he SatBałtyk system is a satellite-based platform for near-real-time monitoring of the Baltic Sea environment, accessible online. The platform integrates satellite observations from multiple sources covering more than 20 years, together with data from in situ instruments, oceanographic databases and numerical models.

SatBałtyk serves a wide range of users—from public authorities responsible for maritime affairs, environmental protection and trade, to researchers and private stakeholders—by providing information across eight thematic domains: atmosphere and meteorology, hydrology, ocean optics, solar radiation, seawater components, phytoplankton, coastal zones and environmental hazards.

The data are made available through an online interface in the form of colour-coded maps that illustrate the spatial distribution of environmental parameters across the entire Baltic Sea. These products include, among others, sea surface temperature, salinity, and the direction and velocity of sea currents.
