About me
Theofano Koutrouveli is a Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng Technical Chamber of Greece) since 2010 and holds a five-year diploma in Civil Engineering (equivalent to MEng) with a specialization in Structural Engineering from the University of Patras (UoP) in Greece. She hold also a Masters degree (MSc) in "Water Resources and Environment" from the same institution since 2012. Her MSc thesis was in the area of Hydraulic and River Engineering and the main objective was to examine flow processes around groynes, as well as the role of spacing between them on the effective control of bed and sidewall shear stress using the commercial software ANSYS FLUENT. In 2018, she received also a PhD in Coastal Engineering from UoP. Her research activity during her PhD was in the areas of coastal and near-shore processes (wave transformation, currents, turbulence, wave overtopping). The main objective of her PhD Thesis was the development and validation of an in-house solver, developed in Fortran, for the simulation of wave propagation and breaking over beaches with equilibrium profiles and over low-crested breakwaters. All her different specializations during her studies had endowed her with a wide background, allowing her to participate in various projects within IMDC, which joined from October 2018. More specifically in IMDC she is actively involved in both large scale and CFD modelling, but also in project management. Some of the projects she has participated are related with hydrodynamic and morphodynamic modelling, as well as dredging activities (Telemac 2D – Sishyphe - Nestor) at long Rivers, water recirculation and renewal in bays (Telemac 3D), CFD modelling for estimating forces acting on coastal structures (ANSYS FLUENT), the stability assessment of filter layers under the action of waves and tidal currents (ANSYS FLUENT), for the estimation of suspended sediment concentration at sediment plumes released from barges (ANSYS FLUENT), as well as for the investigation of the efficiency and performance of different wave energy converter concepts (OpenFoam 6). In addition, she has participated in project management of projects related to plastics and FSRU/LNG terminals. She is recently involved in Business Development related to Blue Energy Market.
My organisation
IMDC is an international engineering and consultancy company in the field of natural waters: precipitation, groundwater, rivers, estuaries, coastal areas, ports and offshore. We have also some supporting teams doing the monitoring and modelling studies, the digital water solutions and the hydro-environmental services. It employs over 120 specialists and is based in Antwerp, Belgium.
Regarding Blue Energy services:
• Site conditions: soil, water and wind (feasibility, basis of design, metocean, LCOE…)
• Environmental services (environmental impact assessment, plume modelling, aquaculture…)
• Subsea cables and interconnectors (cable route, landfall design, CBRA studies, method statements, cable installation analysis…)
• Procurement, constructability and O&M (Preparation and Coordination of field investigations and EPCI tenders, constructability review, weather downtime, construction coordination and supervision, O&M plans…)
• Offshore wind auctions (LCOE models, technical, environmental and circular tender criteria, decommissioning plans…)
• Wave and Tidal energy from concept to pilot projects
