About

Energiequelle is planning in cooperation with the University of Helsinki and the University of Applied Science in Turku an agrivoltaics (agri-pv) research project in Helsinki.

Agrivoltaics is a groundbreaking approach that combines solar energy production with agriculture on the same land. This dual-use strategy optimizes land use, providing both renewable energy and agricultural output simultaneously. It helps reduce land-use conflicts, supports sustainable farming practices, and offers diversified revenue streams for farmers. Additionally, agrivoltaics can mitigate the effects of climate change by lowering greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing biodiversity.

Consisting of a vertical/interspace PV and an overhead PV system, this research project is to lay the foundations of a new field of business in the solar branche in Finland. As first of its kind in Finland, the research project will provide over its lifetime valuable information for both, technical and agricultural aspects of agrivoltaics in the Nordic hemisphere.

The research project will be located in Viikki, right next to the facilities of the agricultural department of the University of Helsinki on a field cultivated by the same. The total area of the research project amounts to 3 hectares including a reference area.

We are looking for partners to enable and fund this important research project together with us.
