About
New Mile gGmbH is a German non-profit organisation established in 2022, working at the intersection of renewable energy, circular economy and humanitarian-development cooperation. The organisation develops sustainable energy infrastructure models for social institutions and underserved communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, with operational presence in Kenya.
New Mile’s core approach combines decentralized solar PV systems, battery storage and energy management solutions with local capacity development, vocational training and supply chain strengthening. The organisation focuses on long-term functionality, repairability and financial sustainability. Circular principles are integrated through battery life-extension strategies, responsible recycling pathways and locally maintainable system design.
Through its Kenyan entity, New Mile collaborates with local technical institutes, private sector actors and regulatory stakeholders to implement scalable, impact-oriented models. Projects integrate productive use of energy, electrified cooking solutions, maintenance contracts and monitoring systems to ensure reliable service delivery beyond the project cycle.
New Mile operates with a lean structure and strategic partnerships, positioning itself as a mission-driven organisation developing resilient, locally anchored energy ecosystems that contribute to SDG 7 and SDG 13 while strengthening economic opportunity and social inclusion.
