ETRI
About
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) is a globally recognized government-funded research institute located in South Korea. Since its establishment in 1976, ETRI has been at the forefront of innovation in information and communication technologies (ICT), playing a pivotal role in Korea's digital transformation. Its research spans a wide range of areas, including artificial intelligence, 5G/6G communications, semiconductors, cybersecurity, mobility, and human-computer interaction. Through cutting-edge R&D and international collaboration, ETRI contributes to solving global technological challenges and shaping the future of digital society.
The Mobility UX Lab, part of the AI and Robot Division at ETRI, conducts advanced research on human behavior understanding within autonomous and semi-autonomous driving environments. The lab aims to enhance safety, trust, and user experience by focusing on drivers and passengers as key agents in the mobility ecosystem. Using computer vision, eye-tracking, physiological sensing, and deep learning, the lab develops models that track and predict human behavior—including attention, intention, and readiness. These models are optimized for integration into autonomous vehicle systems, enabling context-aware decision-making and adaptive in-vehicle interfaces. Current research topics include driver state monitoring, take-over readiness prediction, cognitive load estimation, and passenger interaction design for future mobility.
