Wien Energie

Wien Energie is Austria's largest energy provider supplying two million people and 230,000 commercial and industrial facilities with energy. Electricity and heat are generated from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydropower as well as biomass, waste utilisation and combined heat and power generation. Wien Energie has the clear commitment to be climate neutral by 2040. Therefore, we are developing new ways of using and producing hydrogen. In 2021, Wien Energie put Vienna's first hydrogen refuelling station for buses and trucks into operation and executed in collaboration different companies the world's first hydrogen operating trial in a combined heat and power plant. In 2024, a 3 MW Electrolysis went in operation in Vienna by Wien Energie in cooperation with the local DSO Wiener Netze. Over the next years, we will continue to invest heavily in climate protection, security of supply and the expansion of renewable energies, especially hydrogen.
