My organisation

The Geological Survey of the Netherlands (GDN) is the foremost independent knowledge and research centre of the Dutch subsurface. We use our applied knowledge to provide answers to questions and developments in society. We supply the data, information and knowledge that enable public authorities and the business community to make sustainable daily use of the subsurface. And we conduct research on current needs and desires or those which may only become tangible in a few years’ time.

About me

Laura J. Wasch is a senior scientist at TNO – Geological Survey of the Netherlands, where she serves as lead scientist in innovative national and European research projects on subsurface applications for the energy transition. With a BSc in geology and an MSc in petrology/geochemistry, she has over 15 years of experience in geothermal energy, heat storage, and CO2 storage. Recently, her work has expanded to address the availability of critical raw materials in the Dutch subsurface as part of the materials transition. She focuses on modeling geochemical processes integrated with geological context. Her recent EU projects include PERFORM, REFLECT and PERFORMII, which were focused on improving geothermal performance by preventing harmful deposits (scaling) in geothermal plants. Looking to the future, she is eager to explore new research that drives a more sustainable energy transition and to contribute to a clearer narrative for the public on its necessity.
