About me
Marlene Santos (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5020-5942)) holds a PhD in Biomedicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (2016), a Master’s degree in Molecular Genetics from the University of Minho (2008), and a Degree in Pharmacy from the School of Health, Polytechnic Institute of Porto (2004). She is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Health, Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Portugal), with 19+ years in higher education, and an integrated researcher at LAQV | REQUIMTE. In School of Health, Polytechnic Institute of Porto she is the Coordinator of the Master's degree in Pharmacy, taught through blended learning.
Her scientific and academic activity is centred on pharmacogenomics, molecular mechanisms, and personalized medicine, with particular interest in psychiatric and neurological disorders. Her teaching focus includes Pharmacogenomics and Neuropsychopharmacology, where she contributes to the formation of highly skilled professionals in health sciences and pharmacy.
Marlene Lima is actively involved in several national and international research projects in the field of personalized medicine. She participates in the GENDEP09 project (Genetics of Major Depressive Disorder) and the CYTED initiative GEnoPsySEn (Development of genosensors for pharmacogenomic targets in the central nervous system). She also leads Work Group 1 (WG1) of the ENOTTA COST Action (CA21147) a European network focused on optimizing treatment with therapeutic antibodies in chronic inflammatory diseases.In addition, she is a Taskforce Member of the Neuroscience-based Nomenclature (NbN) initiative, which aims to modernise and update the classification of psychiatric medications, promoting the education of clinicians, patients, and their families.
She is passionate about innovative educational technologies in higher education and has actively contributed to their implementation through continuous professional development, teaching, and research.
