EUREKA/EUROSTARS-Project-Proposal:
ISF – Information System Factory

Abstract

ISF provides a development framework that uses a fourth-generation programming language (4GL) for creating information systems in an agile software development style. The software production process follows the principle of a factory, assembling the final product by reusing previously developed components and adding new components, either in-house or by purchasing external components, as needed. The final system has a three-tier architecture (MVC: Model View Control), which separates an application into: database management (model), user interaction (view), and programming (control). Modern microcomputers can process this tool (ISF) locally at the user's site or in the field (battery-powered) without requiring access to facilities in a global network (cloud). ISF is based on an open-source variant (“Aubit”) of the INFORMIX 4GL (I4GL) Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and requires only low-cost, energy-efficient hardware (e.g., SBC - Single Board Computer). The project will improve the existing product (IDE) by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into it. To support this the project can use the 4GL-Source Code from different (Business Administration) Applications. Since the 4GL – functionality covers in addition to 3GL, coding (Control) also data base management (Model), user interface handling (View), generation of menus, etc. the available code from successful projects can be used to develop AI agents which impact the development and functionality of the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture.
