Craft to Code: The Digital Transformation of Fashion and Art
- Digital Fashion, AI & Creative Technologies
This hands-on crash course is designed for fashion and design students who want to get started with 3D garment design and digital prototyping using Style3D.
Style3D is a professional 3D fashion design and garment simulation software used to create, modify, fit and visualise garments digitally. It is closely comparable to CLO3D, one of the industry-standard tools for 3D fashion design, while also offering a limited free version that makes it accessible for students who want to continue practising after the course. During the course, you will learn the essential tools and workflow of Style3D by creating a complete outfit from scratch. You will learn how to import and create patterns, construct and modify garments, sew them together digitally, work with avatars and fabrics, and apply colours, prints and graphics. The course finishes with creating realistic renders of your digital garments. The course is practical and beginner-friendly: rather than learning the software feature by feature, you will learn through creating a T-shirt and a skirt and combining them into a complete outfit. There will also be time to work on your own project and get individual guidance.
By the end of the crash course, you will have the basic skills to:
• navigate and use the main tools and functions of Style3D;
• import, create and modify 2D garment patterns;
• digitally sew and simulate garments on an avatar;
• work with basic fabric properties and materials;
• modify avatars, poses and garment fit;
• add colours, prints and graphics;
• create high-quality 3D visualisations and renders of your garments;
• continue developing your own projects independently in Style3D.
