Başakşehir is a large and dynamic district with more than 500,000 residents, combining residential areas, large-scale employment and industrial zones, healthcare facilities, green spaces and important transportation connections.

One of the district's key economic assets is the İkitelli Organized Industrial Zone (İOSB). Covering approximately 7 million m², around 95% of İOSB is located within Başakşehir. The zone hosts approximately 24,864 active companies and 200,000–250,000 employees, with significant daily passenger and goods movements. This creates a strong environment for projects focusing on circular economy, resource efficiency, sustainable production, mobility and urban logistics.

Başakşehir is also home to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital, one of the major healthcare complexes in Türkiye. The hospital has 2,755 beds, 90 operating rooms and 3 heliports, and is located approximately 30 km from Istanbul Airport and 4 km from the European Highway. Its scale and daily activity provide an interesting context for projects addressing energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, mobility, resilience and resource management.

The district's location also provides strong connections to Istanbul Airport, the Northern Marmara Highway and major public transport networks, making Başakşehir a relevant setting for testing solutions related to urban mobility, accessibility, logistics and the 15-Minute City concept.

As a municipality, we can contribute to DUT projects through the following roles:

Pilot Testing and Demonstration: We can provide suitable municipal facilities, public spaces and local settings for testing and demonstrating innovative solutions in Başakşehir.

Policy and Regulatory Insights: We can contribute our experience as a local authority and provide insights into municipal policies, local strategies, planning processes and the practical implementation of innovative urban solutions.

Data Contribution: Where appropriate and subject to applicable regulations, we can contribute relevant municipal and local-level data to support research, needs assessment, pilot design and project evaluation.

Stakeholder Engagement: We can facilitate engagement with relevant local stakeholders, including citizens, municipal departments, local organisations and other actors, supporting co-creation, pilot activities and dissemination.
