About
The Centre for Environmental Sciences (CMK) at Hasselt University (Belgium) is looking for municipalities, research organisations, NGOs, technology providers, and other stakeholders interested in developing a consortium under DUT Call 2026 - CUE Topic #2: Innovative Maintenance of Urban Green and Blue Spaces.
CMK has extensive expertise in:
-
Nature-based solutions and urban greening
-
Biodiversity and ecosystem services
-
Environmental monitoring and assessment
-
Soil and water quality
-
Climate adaptation and resilience
-
Citizen science and stakeholder engagement
-
Environmental health and well-being
-
Data-driven decision support for public authorities
A key asset is our GreenBrain project, an interdisciplinary collaboration combining environmental biology, environmental health, and environmental economics. GreenBrain investigates how green environments influence children's stress levels, health, well-being, and quality of life, while generating evidence to support urban greening policies and investments.
Building on this experience, we are interested in projects that:
-
Develop innovative and cost-effective approaches for maintaining urban green and blue infrastructure.
-
Improve biodiversity outcomes and ecosystem service delivery in cities.
-
Enhance the health, well-being, and climate resilience benefits of urban nature.
-
Use environmental monitoring, sensors, digital tools, or citizen science to support management decisions.
-
Co-create and test solutions together with municipalities, schools, citizens, NGOs, and other local actors.
-
Generate practical guidance and decision-support tools for urban planners and public authorities.
We welcome discussions with potential partners interested in developing innovative solutions that make urban green and blue spaces more resilient, biodiverse, healthy, and easier to maintain for the benefit of citizens and local communities.
