Charles Berville

I’m a researcher in sustainable built environments and president of ClimatoSfera, a multidisciplinary NGO dedicated to facilitating the ecological transition and building a climate-resilient society.

My academic work focuses on energy efficiency and the interactions between energy, environment, and climate change at the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest. Alongside my research, I co-founded ClimatoSfera to bring together professionals from diverse fields—engineering, architecture, finance, education, research, and the arts—in order to co-create innovative and inclusive responses to today’s environmental challenges.

Through ClimatoSfera, I contribute to the design and implementation of educational programs, awareness campaigns, and participatory projects that promote sustainable lifestyles, resilient infrastructure, and engaged communities. We regularly organize workshops, urban gardening initiatives, climate education sessions, and dialogues in collaboration with schools, universities, public institutions, and local authorities.

We also partner with private companies, offering tailored training sessions, awareness workshops, and consultancy to support their transition toward more sustainable and climate-responsible practices. One of our core missions is to empower citizens and organizations—youth, educators, public servants, and business leaders—to actively participate in shaping a just and sustainable future.

Beyond ClimatoSfera, I’m involved in several European research and innovation projects on sustainable buildings and resilient cities, such as DivAirCity, ReGreeneration, U-Garden, UrbanWise, and We Generate. These projects explore key topics including decarbonisation, inclusive urban transformation, and citizen science. In addition, I contribute to strategic initiatives like nZEB Ready and BUS4ROBOOST, which aim to align the construction and renovation sectors with the EU 2030 climate and energy targets.
