My organisation

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka is a leading higher education, scientific and research institution in the field of engineering sciences at both the University of Rijeka and in the region where is situated. It is competitive on the European and world knowledge market. The Faculty encompasses 11 departments. The departments include 37 sections and 50 laboratories, and the Faculty also has a Computing Centre, a Library, an Accounting Division, Procurement Office, General and Personnel Office, Student Affairs Office, Technical Service, the Projects and Technology Transfer Office and Digital Services Center. Of a total number of 196 employees, 80 are in teaching-research, 9 in teaching, and 44 in associate positions, while 9 members of staff work on projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, and 46 in the administrative and professional services. 8 members of staff work on EU projects. The Faculty also engages a large number of external associates. The Faculty offers undergraduate and graduate university study programmes in mechanical engineering, naval architecture, electrical engineering and computer engineering, as well as undergraduate vocational study programmes in mechanical engineering, naval architecture and electrical engineering. It also offers three-year doctoral study courses in Engineering Sciences in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Fundamental Engineering Sciences, Interdisciplinary Engineering Sciences and Computer Sciences.

About me

Saša Zelenika is a tenured full professor and Head of the Precision Engineering Laboratory at the University of Rijeka (UNIRI), Faculty of Engineering (RITEH) and Member of the Croatian Academy of Technical Sciences. He was Assistant Minister for Science and Deputy Minister at the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (2012-2014). He was also UNIRI’s Vice-Rector for Strategic Projects (2021-2025) where he has fostered UNIRI’s activities related to open science and AI policies, has led the activities on the reform of research(er) assessment and was in charge of innovation and knowledge valorization activities. He has authored more than 225 scientific and professional publications, 2 textbooks, a patent, 63 scientific broadening newspaper articles, 129 broadening talks and 18 scientific broadening radio shows, and actively participates(ed) in 11 EU FP projects. His research interests are in precision engineering, microsystems technologies, energy harvesting and mechatronics.
