The Sustainable Construction Hub
About
The Linkeroever Sustainable Construction Hub is an innovative and forward-looking project that aims to fundamentally transform construction logistics in urban areas. By centralizing building materials and using low-emission vehicles for the last few miles, the hub drastically reduces the number of trips, emissions, and traffic pressure in the Linkeroever neighborhood. This creates a healthier living environment and increases traffic safety.
The project responds to an urgent need: the construction sector is responsible for almost 30% of the logistics vehicle kilometers in Antwerp. With the planned renovation of 19 social apartment buildings, this impact is likely to grow even further. The construction hub offers a structural solution that is not only ecological but also socially and economically profitable.
What makes this project unique is the combination of sustainable logistics, social housing renovation, and a public-private partnership that focuses on scalability and measurable impact. The approach is inspired by successful examples from Brussels, Stockholm, and Eindhoven, and is perfectly applicable in other cities facing similar challenges.
