Seeking for Project Cooperation - Offering Integrated Development & Testing for Resilient Urban Mobility
About
We at the Smart Mobility department at Fraunhofer FOKUS turn fleets into AI sensing networks to perceive the road, generate HD map layers, and deliver real time mobility intelligence. We combine state of the art object detection for automated driving with privacy preserving on device processing and a scalable cloud pipeline to convert crowdsourced road scene data into viable products (e.g., parking occupancy, infrastructure inventory). With open, standards based toolchains and access to real fleets and testbeds, we de risk pilots, accelerate deployment, and support data driven policy.
What we offer:
• Integrated development and testing for Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility
• Advanced AI perception for object detection, tracking, and segmentation for automated driving (vehicular and railway) and roadside asset analytics
• Smartphone based retrofit kit to turn public transport and other fleets into connected sensor nodes with on device camera AI
• Crowdsourced mapping pipeline transforming crowd data into HD maps and dynamic layers (lanes, signs, work zones, potholes, curb space, parking occupancy)
• Real time data products and APIs (e.g., parking monitoring, roadworks alerts) integrated with city platforms
• Open, standards based tooling and privacy by design (on device blurring, minimization, GDPR compliance)
How we can contribute:
• Lead/co lead WPs on perception, edge AI, crowdsourced mapping, data fusion, and impact assessment
• Provide real-world test environments, datasets, and validation methods; co‑creation with cities and operators
• Provide retrofit hardware/SDK, deployment playbooks, and fleet device management; integration with control and operation centers
• Operate data pipeline, labeling/QA, benchmarking; deliver datasets, KPIs, and dashboards; co-creation with cities and operators
• Run pilots on partner fleets/testbeds; validate against ground truth; connect to urban data platforms and digital twins
Who we seek:
• City and transport authorities; public transport operators; fleet owners (buses, taxis, municipal services); parking operators
• OEMs and Tier 1s; map/navigation and data platform provider
• Researchers in computer vision, social impacts, civil society
