About
Musiquence Technologies is an innovative startup that emerged from a joint doctoral project between NOVA University Lisbon – Faculty of Science and Technology and the NeuroRehabLab at the University of Madeira. This project focused on the cognitive stimulation of people with dementia through serious games that integrate music therapy and reminiscence.
The doctoral thesis that led to Musiquence explored the preservation of musical memory in individuals with dementia (e.g., Alzheimer's disease), despite the deterioration of working memory, which significantly impacts their quality of life. The goal was to investigate how elements of music and reminiscence could interact with the components of working memory (Baddeley's model), facilitating the retrieval of long-term memories. Throughout the process, this hypothesis was subjected to various scientific studies, resulting in publications in specialized health and technology conferences and journals. These studies suggest its validity in terms of both user-friendly interaction with people with dementia and healthcare professionals, and its ability to promote cognitive stimulation. Several studies suggest improvements in mood, quality of life, and the maintenance of overall cognitive function.
At Musiquence Technologies, our mission is to empower content creators, such as teachers and therapists, with intuitive tools. We use artificial intelligence and scientific validation to offer interactive and customizable solutions that don't require advanced technical knowledge. By simplifying the creation of educational and therapeutic activities, we enable quick and effective adaptations, ensuring that the individual needs of each user (students and patients) are met practically and efficiently. This ease of use and user-centered design distinguish us from traditional solutions.
