REGION OF WESTERN GREECE
About
The Region of Western Greece is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. It encompasses the northwestern part of the Peloponnese and the western end of Central Greece, including the regional units of Aetolia-Acarnania, Achaea, and Elis. With a diverse landscape that includes mountains, fertile plains, rivers, and a long coastline along the Ionian Sea, Western Greece is a region of rich natural beauty and ecological significance.
The region has deep historical and cultural roots, being home to important archaeological sites such as Ancient Olympia—the birthplace of the Olympic Games—and many Byzantine and post-Byzantine monuments. Western Greece plays a vital role in the country’s agricultural and energy sectors and is also a growing destination for sustainable tourism, innovation, and regional development initiatives.
The Regional Authority is committed to promoting economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social cohesion, working closely with local communities, academic institutions, and national and European partners.
