About

The non-profit organisation Défi-job was established in 2002 to promote the socio-professional reintegration of people placed in the penitentiary of Givenich, in the hope that a regular job might reduce the risk of reoffending.

Work is a key component of social cohesion. Time spent in prison should be so arranged that it makes this deprivation of freedom useful. The management and care of people held in custody during their sentence should allow them to acquire skills that are necessary to share society’s values and to ensure their successful reintegration into the community. Everyone deserves a second chance and for the majority of prisoners access to work is an invaluable opportunity to rebuild their lives and to live in the community.

Défi-job’s mission is to create, develop and foster projects that facilitate professional and social integration. In doing this it must take into account the social profile of inmates and the requirements of the jobs market, while building on the development of co-operation between the different socio-economic actors at local, regional and national level.

Aims

·       To help the socio-economic integration of detainees into society through training and entering the world of work.

·       To help establish a career plan and put it into practice.

·       To reduce the risk of reoffending by way of work or a regular socio-professional activity that gives structure and stability to the individual’s life.

·       To take part in improving the image of detainees.

·       To ensure the development of their personal and social skills.

Défi-job is co-financed by the ministry of Justice and the ministry of Work, Employment and social and solidarity Economy.
