Acerca de mí
Juan Sapena (juan.sapena@ucv.es (1970, Jávea). I am Full Professor of Applied Economics at the Catholic University of Valencia. Graduated (1993) and Doctor (1999) in Economics at the University of Valencia, since 2020 I am director of the Department of Economics, Management and Marketing of the Catholic University of Valencia, where I am also, since 2018, director of the “Christeyns” Chair for a Sustainable Economy. Also, at UCV I have served as head of INEDE Business School (2005-2019) and dean at the Faculty of Economics and Business (2008-2019). I am also Professor-Tutor of the Associated Center of the UNED in Valencia (since 1997) and have collaborated as a lecturer at the University of Valencia, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the Open University of Catalonia and the Santo Tomás University (Colombia).
My scientific production includes numerous articles published in international scientific journals, including the Journal of Financial Stability (JFS), Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money (JIFIM), Computational Economics, Economic Modeling, Business Horizons, Journal of Business Research, or Technological Forecasting and Social Change, among others. I have also contributed to collective works such as Recent Econometric Techniques for Macroeconomic and Financial Data (2021) or the Economics Manual of the European Union (8e-2019 and 9e-2023).
My areas of interest mainly include the economy and international finance, as well as economic integration processes, as well as the sustainability of public and external debt imbalances, and also the design of good governance institutions at the service of corporations and their sustainability. At a methodological level, I have worked in the field of time series analysis, as well as its representation and estimation of models with unobservable variables in the state space. I am currently member of the INTECO Economic Research Group that also includes researchers from the universities of Valencia, Alicante and Jaume.
I belong to different academic associations, such as the Spanish Association of International Economics and Finance, Spanish chapter of the International Economics and Finance Society (since 1999), Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country (since 2001), Free Association of Economics - ALdE (since 2011), Catholic Research Economists Discussion Organization - CREDO (since 2015) or the International Network for Economic Research - INFER (since 2018). In 2019 I gave the Master Lecture for the opening of the Academic Course at the Catholic University of Valencia, under the title "Economy: The value of a gloomy science").
