Carbon neutral steel making in Europe

Location:Bourse Auditoire MichauxTrack:Breakout session

The steel industry contributes to sustainable growth, value-added employment within numerous sectors which are crucial for the EU competitiveness, like construction, automotive, mechanical engineering, energy generation and networks, mobility, and defence. Also, steel is a material enabling the deployment of green energy technologies, and its recycling contributes to a circular EU economy. But at the same time, the production of steel remains a CO2 and energy-intensive activity. In this session we will learn how the EU steel industry has already significantly reduced its footprint and how the European Clean Steel Partnership aims to develop deployable technologies that can reduce CO2 emissions by 80-95% by 2050, ultimately achieving climate neutrality. Speakers from different stakeholders engaged in this joint effort (steel industry, research institutes, European Commission) will share their vision, achievements so far and challenges ahead.
