Materials at the core of nuclear technologies
The future of nuclear technologies from medical radioisotopes production to novel gen IV reactors or from waste containment to fusion is heavily related to materials. Most expected progress requires either the development of novel materials able to support extreme environments, the optimisation of known materials or the consolidation of the processing and delivery chains of current materials. Europe has an excellent materials research, development and production legacy but must maintain and even sometimes redeploy some fields, such as in the case of metallurgy, in order to support industry in the renaissance of nuclear. The purpose of the session is to discuss these issues and contribute to the roadmap with a general perspective on nuclear applications.
