Transformation of European Energy Intensive Industries on the way to climate neutrality
Besides electrification, the integration of alternative sustainable energy carriers (H2, ammonia, methanol, syngas, biogas, bio-based resources, steam, and others) will play a significant role in the decarbonisation of the process industries. Highly efficient technologies and integrated design and operation will need to be developed for the use of alternative carriers in the materials production processes coping for the fluctuations of energy inputs. The selection of technologies to be developed will depend on the specific conditions of the different sectors and applications.
In this session, we will learn about the perspectives and options for ways forward of different Energy Intensive Industry sectors in regards to EU climate neutrality agenda, including 2040 target discussion, and their ambitions to become net-zero and their approaches to sustainable energy carriers in this process.
