About

Venice Lagoon Plastic Free (VLPF) is a non-profit organization registered in the National Single Third Sector Registry (RUNTS) and based in the historic city center of Venice.

We live and work within the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Venice and its Lagoon”—a unique and dynamic environment that serves as a privileged testing ground for scientific, social, and technological innovation with both national and global relevance. Our multidisciplinary activities are carried out in close cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders and partner organizations.

VLPF uses the Venice lagoon as a living laboratory to develop and test innovative solutions for the prevention, monitoring, management, and remediation of marine litter, as well as for promoting sustainable blue and circular economy initiatives. These solutions are designed to be shared, replicated, and scaled up at national, European, and international levels.

VLPF is a signatory of the Mission Ocean Charter and a consortium member of Lighthouse Mission Ocean and Waters HEUROPE projects. It is also a data provider for EMODnet (Beach Litter) and a member of both the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) and the Small Islands Organisation (SMILO). Additionally, VLPF supports the WWF Plastic Smart Cities programme in Venice.
