Zero Waste Managers Association Uganda (ZWMAU)

The Zero Waste Managers Association (ZWMA) is a professional, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sustainable waste management, resource recovery, and circular economy practices. The Association brings together waste management professionals, environmental practitioners, government agencies, academic institutions, private sector actors, civil society organizations, and community groups committed to promoting zero waste principles and sustainable development.

At the core of ZWMA's mission is the establishment and development of a Centre for Excellence in Zero Waste Management, which serves as a hub for research, innovation, capacity building, technology transfer, and knowledge sharing. The Centre for Excellence promotes evidence-based approaches and practical solutions to address waste management challenges while supporting the transition towards a circular and regenerative economy.

ZWMA serves as a collaborative platform for professional networking, policy advocacy, research, education, and innovation in sustainable materials management. The Association works to reduce waste generation, increase resource efficiency, promote recycling and composting, and strengthen climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable communities.

Our key activities include organizing professional training programs, workshops, and certification courses; conducting public awareness and environmental education campaigns; supporting research and innovation through the Centre for Excellence; facilitating partnerships among stakeholders at local, national, regional, and international levels; and providing technical assistance to governments, institutions, businesses, and communities in developing and implementing effective zero waste policies and practices.

Through advocacy, capacity building, research, and practical action, ZWMA empowers professionals and communities to adopt sustainable waste management approaches that contribute to environmental protection, public health, climate action, and inclusive economic development. The Association actively collaborates with national, regional, and international partners to promote best practices, strengthen institutional capacity, and advance the global zero waste agenda.
