Innovative Portable Desalination Device for Remote and Emergency Water Purification

A South Korea-based company has developed a portable water purification device that can desalinate contaminated underground water without the need for expensive reverse osmosis (RO) membrane replacements. Compared to conventional RO-based systems, this device operates with significantly lower energy consumption, making it highly efficient and cost-effective.

The system effectively removes toxic ions—including heavy metals, fluoride, and arsenic—as well as salt, making it suitable for both drinking water and disaster relief applications. It can purify up to 2,000 liters of water per day, with a water recovery rate ranging from 50% to 90%.

Designed with portability in mind, the device is lightweight and compact enough to be carried by hand, making it ideal for use in disaster zones, conflict-affected areas, and remote regions with limited access to clean water.
