National Institute of Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation (NIGRiR), Warsaw, Poland
The National Institute of Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation (NIGRiR) is a leading public research and clinical institution in Poland, combining scientific research, clinical care, education and healthcare innovation. The Institute has multidisciplinary expertise in geriatrics, rheumatology, rehabilitation, otolaryngology and the management of chronic, complex and rare diseases, with a particular focus on older adults and patients with multimorbidity.
NIGRiR conducts clinical and translational research and has experience in clinical trials, interdisciplinary research and the development of patient-centred and value-based models of care. Its research interests include healthy ageing, multimorbidity, chronic inflammatory processes, rare diseases, personalised healthcare and patient outcomes. The Institute also addresses the challenges of polypharmacy and multimorbidity in older adults, with a focus on optimising pharmacological treatment and tailoring therapeutic strategies to individual patient needs.
A growing area of expertise is otolaryngology and the role of sensory and vestibular disorders in healthy ageing. The Institute focuses on the diagnosis and management of age-related hearing loss and on understanding its impact on quality of life, functional status and cognitive health. Research also explores the prevalence and clinical significance of hearing impairment and its associations with sarcopenia, frailty and functional decline. Vestibular dysfunction is investigated in relation to falls, loss of independence and cognitive impairment, including its potential contribution to the development and progression of dementia.
NIGRiR is committed to developing integrated, multidisciplinary and value-based models of care and to translating research and innovation into clinical practice. The Institute is particularly interested in international collaboration within Horizon Europe in the areas of healthy ageing, multimorbidity, rare diseases, hearing and vestibular disorders, sarcopenia and falls prevention, dementia and cognitive health, personalised healthcare, clinical research, patient outcomes and healthcare system innovation.
