The Danish Committee for Health Education (DCHE) is a national, non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1964 and today employing more than 40 staff members with expertise in public health, communication, pedagogy, project management, and digital learning. DCHE works to improve health and well-being across Denmark and Europe by developing evidence-based health education, prevention initiatives, and tools that support citizens, patients, and professionals in their everyday lives.
DCHE collaborates closely with public authorities such as the Danish Ministry of Health, the National Board of Health, and a broad range of private and civil-society organizations. Its membership primarily consists of professional health associations, as well as associations representing Danish municipalities and regions, which hold responsibility for preventive and curative care. This unique position enables DCHE to work across sectors and to act as a bridge between policy, practice, research, and citizens.
DCHE develops, tests, and disseminates a wide range of health promotion materials and educational concepts for diverse groups. Its activities span child and maternal health, mental health, chronic disease management, infectious disease prevention, lifestyle-related factors, and health literacy. DCHE has a long tradition of producing high-quality communication materials, digital tools, and campaigns that translate complex health knowledge into accessible, actionable guidance for both national and European audiences.
Over the past decade, DCHE has gained substantial expertise in patient empowerment and co-created health education. We design, implement, and evaluate structured patient education programmes delivered by health professionals. These programmes have been implemented across most of Denmark and in several hospitals. Through research, events, engagement activities, and policy analysis, DCHE ensures that health education is evidence-based, practice-oriented, and grounded in real-world needs.
In recent years, DCHE has significantly expanded its international engagement and now participates actively in a wide range of European collaborations. DCHE has demonstrated the ability to successfully participate and lead Erasmus+ projects, as well as participating in Horizon Europe initiatives, and other EU-funded programmes. These projects address topics such as mental health, cancer, chronic diseases, digital health literacy, youth empowerment, and inclusive community-based health promotion across Europe.
DCHE contributes with strong competencies in project coordination, policy development, strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, and translating research into practical tools and guidelines.
Through its international work, DCHE actively supports knowledge exchange, capacity building, and cross-border collaboration—helping to improve health literacy, strengthen prevention, and promote equitable health opportunities across the European population.
