About

Vilnius University (VU) is Lithuania’s leading comprehensive research university, bringing together expertise across medicine, life sciences, data science and AI, physics, chemistry, and social sciences. This interdisciplinary environment enables integrated research from fundamental discovery and advanced disease modelling through preclinical and clinical research to population health and implementation.

For health collaboration, VU combines the strengths of the Faculty of Medicine, Life Sciences Center, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, and other science faculties, with a growing translational research ecosystem encompassing the Translational Health Research Institute, Advanced Disease Modelling Center, specialized laboratories and competence centres, preclinical research and vivarium infrastructure, and the Lithuanian Population and Rare Diseases Biobank.

VU is strongly embedded in European and international research networks and infrastructures. Its international ecosystem includes partnerships and participation in EMBL, EU-LIFE, BBMRI-ERIC, the Arqus European University Alliance and the Coimbra Group, as well as involvement in the EUREKA network and European collaborative R&I programmes. These connections strengthen opportunities for multidisciplinary research, access to expertise and infrastructure, and development of international consortia.

Key areas for collaboration include cancer and other major NCDs, rare diseases, prevention and personalized medicine, biomarkers, advanced disease modelling and NAMs, preclinical and translational research, biobanking and population genomics, digital health, AI and health data*. Strategic cooperation with Lithuania’s national data ecosystem further opens opportunities for secure, data-driven health research and innovation.

At the Cluster Health & Mission Cancer Brokerage Event, VU is seeking partners from academia, healthcare, research infrastructures, industry and the public sector to develop ambitious Horizon Europe and Mission Cancer collaborations spanning discovery, validation, clinical translation and population-level impact.
