Advancing Cancer Control in Moldova: Implementing the EU Beating Cancer Plan through WHO-led Initiatives on Childhood and Breast Cancer

The WHO Country Office in the Republic of Moldova is interested in establishing partnerships with research institutions, healthcare organizations, cancer centres, civil society organizations, and innovation stakeholders to advance the implementation of the EU Beating Cancer Plan and strengthen national cancer control efforts.

Our priority is to support evidence-based interventions that contribute to reducing cancer morbidity and mortality and accelerating alignment with European best practices in cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care.

Particular areas of interest include:

• Childhood cancer, through the implementation of the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC) and the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines (GPACCM).

• Breast cancer, through the implementation of the WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI), including early detection, timely diagnosis, quality-assured treatment, and health system strengthening.

• Capacity building for healthcare professionals and multidisciplinary cancer care teams.

• Strengthening cancer information systems, cancer registries, monitoring, and evaluation.

• Implementation research, digital health solutions, and innovative approaches that improve access, quality, and equity in cancer services.

• Cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange supporting Moldova's alignment with EU cancer policies, standards, and recommendations.

We welcome collaboration opportunities under Horizon Europe, EU4Health, and other European funding mechanisms, with the objective of improving cancer outcomes and ensuring equitable access to high-quality cancer care for all populations in Moldova.
